Additional information

This paper proposes a novel injection design involving brine recirculation to ensure safe carbon dioxide storage. It was an early success under the £3 million Shell-Imperial Grand Challenge on Clean Fossil Fuels (2006-2011) and helped secure $70 million from Shell, Qatar Petroleum and the Qatar Foundation for a 10-year programme (2008-2018). The work uses streamline-based simulation, a technology pioneered by MJB, who is CTO of a commercial spin-off Streamsim Technologies, www.streamsim.com. This technology was cited in his Uren Award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (www.spe.org) for achievements in petroleum technology made before the age of 45.
