Additional information

Annual publications on fibre reinforcement of soil have risen sevenfold since 2002 (source: Web of Science). Paper is first to demonstrate anisotropic behaviour of fibres through experiments and modelling, overturning common belief. Work was awarded Best Modelling Contribution at New Horizon in Earth Reinforcement (Kyushu, Japan, 2007). Paper was among 25 most-downloaded articles from journal consecutively for 2 years from publication. Paper led to successful completion of Diambra's PhD, his appointment as Lecturer at University of Bristol and his EPSRC First Grant (EP/J010022/1, £100k, 2012-3).
