Additional information

<22>For the first time, this paper shows that neural processing of melodic structure interferes with processing of linguistic syntax but not semantics, highlighting a computational link between linguistic and musical grammar. It uses an innovative combination of neuroimaging and computational modeling using unsupervised statistical learning in variable-order Markov models. Work was accepted to Cortex, one of the oldest and most respected high-impact journals in Cognitive Neuroscience (reviewer comments: 'elegantly designed', 'original', 'convincing', 'innovative') on first submission, which is highly unusual in this field.
