The work described in this paper is dealing with viable routes to lower the cost of thin film PV, namely CdTe devices. The results described in the paper demonstrated that a controllable deposition technique, such as MOCVD allow using up to 8 times less absorber material and widening the band gap of the window layer, while maintaining the device efficiencies above 10%. The research took place during the EPSRC funded consortium of PV Supergen phase ( EP/F029624/1) and the findings contributed to secure continuation of funding.
