Borate cross-linked konjac glucomannan preparations are of commercial interest across the pharmaceutical sector, typically being claimed within formulations for wound gels (US patent 6444199) and ophthalmic preparations including drug delivery media (US patent 7128928). This work was funded by Maelor Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Wrexham in conjunction with the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and demonstrates novel techniques to determine the rheology of these materials which is key to their successful in-vivo performance.
