Additional information

This paper results from a collaborative project concerning the development of a biorefinery based on fructans from rye-grass and was funded through the BBSRC Integrated Biorefinery Research and Technology Club [IBTI] initiative. For the biorefinery to become sustainable it will be necessary to produce a range of high value speciality chemicals. The work reported has shown that  fructans can be derivatised to produce a range of biosurfactants with potential application in various products e.g. personal & home care, cosmetics etc. Croda Ltd, a member of the IBTI Club is currently evaluating the products with a view to commercial exploitation [kim.carmichael@croda.com]
