Additional information

This book offers insights into the cultural history of Merseyside in modern times. In his introduction, the joint-editor assesses the image and definition of Merseyside and contends that in order to come to an adequate assessment of a region’s identity, attention must be paid to high/low culture, along with the points at which they meet. Accordingly, the author’s chapter on St David’s Day celebrations on Merseyside demonstrates how different forms of celebration, ranging from lavish banquets to more humble gatherings, enhance our understanding of a diasporic identity.
