Pursuit-Evasion on Trees by Robot Teams
The paper was central to the success of a grant from ELLIIT (http://www.liu.se/elliit) in 2012 to finance a post-doctoral position at Linköping University (600,000 SEK/year). Its models and algorithms underpin a system in development and use at Carnegie Mellon University (Katia Sycara, katia@cs.cmu.edu). This novel system demonstrated powerful search capabilities for realistic environments of unprecedented size. It enabled human and autonomous searchers to find anyone in a 700,000 sqm. area. At Linköping (alexander.kleiner@liu.se) this is being extended to massive teams of unmanned aerial vehicles capable of searching vast disaster areas such as Fukushima.
