An agent-based approach for integrated process planning and scheduling
Funded (approx £165k) by National High-Tech Research and Development Program of China (2007AA04Z107), a multi-agent technology was the first time to be incorporated with an innovative model of integrated process planning and scheduling in machining in order to coordinate complex manufacturing systems intelligently. The work was verified using typical cases with multiple machines and jobs from literatures to showcase the improved responsiveness of the infrastructure with the agent design. Supported by a €3.5M FP7 collaborative project, CAPP-4-SMEs (NMP-ICT-FoF-2012-314024), the new infrastructure is currently trialled in machining industry in Sweden, UK, Germany and Spain (contact Sandvik: Project manager Vahid Kalhori, vahid.kalhori@sandvik.com).
