Direct numerical simulation of the near-field dynamics of annular gas-liquid two-phase jets
Using advanced direct numerical simulation (DNS) based on supercomputing, this work rigorously identified the effects of swirl, annular nozzle geometry, and the presence of the liquid sheet on the dynamics of the complex two-phase jet flows. The interaction of different fluid dynamic factors was identified for the first time. The DNS results provided detailed and new information on the fundamental aspects of the flow physics, which is not possible using any other means.
This work made use of the HPCx facilities available at that time and was supported by the EPSRC-funded collaborative UK Turbulence Consortium (EP/D044073/1).
