Analyses of Power Output of Piezoelectric Energy-Harvesting Devices Directly Connected to a Load Resistor Using a Coupled Piezoelectric-Circuit Finite Element Method
The research was part of a portfolio of funded work (EP/E001874/1: EPSRC/IMRC-137) on energy harvesting. This paper is the first published work to solve a key problem on modelling the power output of vibration-based piezoelectric energy harvesting devices (PEHD) connected to a load circuit, using a finite element method. The results contributed to the development of a portfolio of further funded work (EPSRC EP/K020331, £630k) on energy harvesting applications and the method has been adopted in the BAE Systems ‘Persistent Green Air Vehicle Technology Challenge’ programme where it will be used to contribute to the overall lean energy (Ian Harrington, ian.harrington@baesystems.com).
