Additional information

Psyllium, a highly gelling and absorbent polysaccharide has never been used as a textile fibre. This work has not only illustrated its successful use as a composite fibre but it also facilitates minute use and dispensation of silver salt with potent microbial (including MRSA) killing abilities. The work has been patented (GB2499359 (A) ― 2013-08-21). Following independent verification, funding from TSB has led to pilot production of the fibre. Advanced Medical Solutions (AMS), the licensee through Xiros are to produce the fibre commercially for wound dressing applications.. This work also formed part of PhD thesis of Masood (2011, Supervisor Miraftab)
