Additional information

This collaborative research between University of Bolton and IIT Delhi (India) is a continuation of DTI Technical Textile Initiative which included three UK industrial partners. Geotextiles are placed between the sub-base and subgrade in order to enhance the bearing capacity of soft subgrades. A series of models were generated which suggest that it is of utmost importance for a geotextile designer to account for in-plane tensile properties in the weaker direction for predicting the axi-symmetric tensile properties specifically for anisotropic needlepunched nonwoven geotextiles. These models are invaluable in predicting the long-term behaviour of geotextiles in many geotechnical applications.
