This work sheds light on the controversy between scientists about the role of MoO3 gap states in terms of charge injection at the contact region of optoelectronic devices such as OLEDs and organic solar cells. As the first author, I was in charge of the first-principles computational modelling involved; I wrote most of the theoretical part and coordinated each revision before final submission. This research was financially supported by the Center for Interface Science: Solar Electric Materials (CISSEM) via the U.S. Department of Energy under Award Number DE-SC0001084.
