Additional information

This paper was the first demonstration of the application of Raman micro-spectroscopy, a non-destructive technique, to elucidate cell-source dependent variations for embryonic stem cells, osteoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells. This paper was highlighted in Nature Reports Stem Cells and Nature Asia. We are currently using this technology to phenotype cells by analysing their Raman spectral ‘fingerprints’ in European Commission FP7SAVVY consortium (£698K,Stevens PI) and Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award (£2.4M, Stevens PI). Awards related to this innovation include the European Materials Research Society 2012 EU-40 prize.
