For dense suspensions of hard-core colloidal particles with purely repulsive interactions, the paper shows how dilatancy and jamming cause a transition from liquid to solid-like behaviour. Follow-up work is being carried out by Smith in a Royal Society Fellowship at Nottingham (evidence file Bertola2-1.pdf).
