A quantitative analysis of signal reproduction from cylinder
recordings measured via noncontact full surface mapping
Significance of output:
A key output from the Sound Archive Project which was awarded the 2008 James A. Lindner Prize by the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives. It was a collaboration with the British Library (Nigel.Bewley@bl.uk), facilitating digital transfer of historically important sound artefacts, many thousands of which are held on media that are decaying and too delicate to play with a stylus. The work described here aided the understanding of stylus-induced damage to a cylinder owned by the Science Museum which is thought to hold the voice of Queen Victoria
