Mr Giles Peek is a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery and ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, based at Glenfield General Hospital. He also holds an appointment as an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences of the University of Leicester. His surgical practice is focused on congenital heart disease in children and adults, including paediatric thoracic surgery. He has an active and long standing research interest in Extra-Corporeal Life Support (ECLS), particularly focused on clinical trials, which has continued since his doctoral research as a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellow. His research also includes interests in clinical trial design, patient safety and high altitude physiology. He has published 89 papers in these areas (26 since 2008), which have been cited 1467 times (677 since 2008) and his h-index is 17.
