An aesthetics of touch: investigating the language of design relating to form
Teinaki, who is supervised by Spencer, Cockton and Montgomery in her doctoral studies, undertook the fieldwork for this research. Touch, within textile based craft practices is a focal area of research for Montgomery and Cockton is interested in understanding the forms of and the adaptability of Design Work. This particular study forms part of Spencer's research into design methods and design experience; his research into the nature of expertise was critical in shaping and directing this study.
The research considers how designers experience, articulate, and reflect on the manipulation of physicality in product development, contributes to a larger body of work by Spencer that seeks to better understand the experience of designing and design intelligence. Through creative intervention into the experience of designing and empirical observations the research aims to develop new and understand current dynamic and adaptive design resources. This study helps build towards that aim by benchmarking Postgraduate designers' range and use of vocabularies to articulate tactile considerations.
