Additional information
This paper brought fire toxicity back onto the agenda. It is the first paper to show how the equivalence ratio correlates to the yield of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and hydrogen cyanide for the range of common polymers. It played a vital role in establishing the steady state tube furnace as the only reliable means for replicating highly toxic under-ventilated flaming on a bench scale. This paved the way for the adoption of ISO 19700 (it is referenced in the standard) and to the general awareness that monitoring fire toxicity was an essential component of ensuring fire safety.
