Additional information

<28> This paper, resulting from EPSRC project EP/E017215/1, introduces a new algorithm, based on P-System formalism and evolutionary algorithms, for in silico evolution of Synthetic Biology genetic regulatory networks. This state-of-the-art machine intelligence technique can, for a given target phenotype, design several genetic programs matching the desired phenotype thus given the experimentalists multiple routes for engineering biologically novel circuits. This paper substantially extend a conference version which won the Best Paper award at Bioinformatics track (GECCO-2008), and has been the top most downloaded paper for this journal since its publication until May 2013.
