Additional information

The Tuning Machine is a stereo fixed media work intended to be played in stereo or over multiple loudspeakers. The work was premiered at the Soundings Festival in Edinburgh and has received subsequent performances in Belfast and Melbourne, Australia. The research goal was to investigate the potential harmonic materials inherent in internal and external space. Whilst many fixed media works engage spatiality within the context of performance and diffusion, the exploration of the inherent spatial harmony in a range of diverse source materials drives much of the material investigation for this work. Moreover, the spatial qualities inherent in nearly all of the carefully controlled sources is of primary concern to the development of the harmonic materials and musical narrative. The work seeks to place these musical concerns above sound typology, gestural exploration and diffusion practice.
