Additional information

X-ray phase contrast imaging had been proposed for applications in medicine, biology and material science. This is the first time its use was proposed in security applications. Based on this paper The Home Office funded a project to build a system and enhanced sensitivity in threat detection was achieved. One member of the team (A. Olivo) was given the opening lecture at the 2011 Gordon Conference on homeland security, I was given an invited lecture at the Home Office Innovative Research Conference, London 2011 and commercial exploitation is underway. Role: I was the PI on the Home Office award.
