Additional information

Accurate prediction of wind flow over hills is very important for wind farm design (and other application areas). For practical purposes the industry requires rapid methods, but these are not valid for steep hills, which can cause flow separation and reduced speed-up over the hill crest. This paper tests a new commercial computational tool that is more complex but takes advantage of the increases in computing power, against established test cases. Part of an EngD, this provided the company (and industry) with a much more rigorous assessment than the supplier was willing to give.
