Additional information

This paper forms part of a program to validate the use of CFD for design of pre-swirl systems in gas turbine engines. This paper focused on the validation of CFD for heat transfer in the pre-swirl system. The experimental data used, provided by the University of Bath, is the only full coverage heat transfer data available for pre-swirl systems. This study provides a benchmark for future code improvement. Based on this validation program, Rolls-Royce have made extensive use of CFD for pre-swirl system design including novel patented designs.
