Additional information

This work provides best practice recommendations for carrying out dynamic finite element analysis of bridges and includes comparisons with available field measurements. Its outcomes have been used in drafting European guidelines (output of RFCS project BriFag, co-ordinator Dr M Lucic, CTICM, mlukic@cticm.com) providing comprehensive and up-to-date guidance for the fatigue design of new, and assessment of old, steel bridges. In particular, the work presented herein addresses issues of implementing and interpreting advanced structural analysis methods which can be used to capture dynamic amplification of moving loads and estimate stress ranges for fatigue calculations.
