Additional information

This is the first study of this prominent Welsh-American society – the oldest beneficent society in Pennsylvania. It examines the origins of the society from the early eighteenth century onwards when it was called the Society of the Sons of Ancient Britons. It offers insights into some of the leading members and a brief examination of the society‘s charitable remit. It is largely centred on the society‘s previously under-valued minute books from 1798 to c.1850.
