Additional information

Koko Kawanami and Benedicte Brac de la Perriere at CNRS, Paris, co-edited a special issue of Asian Ethnology on ‘Power, Authority and Contested Hegemony in Burmese-Myanmar Religion’. In addition to her single-authored article, Kawanami contributed a substantial introduction which addressed the difficulties and ethical dilemmas faced by researchers working in a 'rogue state' such as Myanmar. The journal issue was ground-breaking in bringing together scholars from France, Luxembourg, Japan and elsewhere, thus decentring a field previously dominated by North American scholarship, and changing the demographics of those who study Myanmar society and religion.
