Double-weighted statement

Qualitative longitudinal research is rare on the temporal scale demonstrated in this book. The study demanded persistence and commitment over a fourteen year period of data collection. The analytic task was complex requiring longitudinal analysis, cross sectional analysis and a drawing together of the two with an unwavering theoretical focus on identity change through childhood and adolescence. The resulting presentation of case studies provides a nuanced and significant contribution to our understanding of the ways that self is created and recreated over time. The duration, complexity and detail of this unusual qualitative longitudinal study warrant a double weighting.
