Additional information

This work is a result of a highly interdisciplinary collaboration with Southampton University funded by EPSRC (GR/S27771; GR/S27764). It was the first time that silver nanoparticles have been impregnated into the air holes of microstructured optical fibers via high pressure chemical deposition technique, resulting in fully integrated photonic-plasmonic devices. The product demonstrates strong effect of surface enhanced Raman scattering. This technique is likely to pave the way to the next generation of optical fiber sensors.
