Additional information

The current method of detection of pathogens in food is time consuming and suffers from false negative results with potentially devastating effects on public health related to food poisoning. This is the first report using surface modified nanoparticles for the detection of food borne microorganisms. The method has been extended to detect pathogens in water samples in an on-going multinational collaborative project with Prof. Dongyuan Zhao, Fudan University. Another collaborative project proposal with Tata Chemicals Ltd. India and Feedwater Ltd. UK has been shortlisted for funding under the UK-India Education & Research Initiative using the concept of nanoparticles based sensing.
