Simultaneous DSC-FTIR spectroscopy: Comparison of cross-linking kinetics of an epoxy/amine resin system
This original hyphenated technique was developed via an EPSRC grant (GR/R34882/02). The industrial collaborators were Perkin-Elmer (differential scanning calorimetry) and Nicolet (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). Perkin-Elmer now offers a non-contact probe to enable Raman/DSC. The industrial contact at Perkin-Elmer was Paul Clarke. Paul.Clarke@perkinelmer.com. The technique has enabled the development of a multi-functional sensor that is capable of simultaneous monitoring strain, temperature, refractive index and cross-linking kinetics. It has resulted in three international invited talks, including presentation at an “all-invited speaker” conference: 1st International Workshop: Embedded Optical Sensors for Composite Materials, Ghent, Belgium (7-8 October 2013).
