This chapter builds on Rampton’s 2006 case-study analysis of data from 1997, but strengthens and generalises the findings with Harris’s analysis of focus group and questionnaire data collected from 39 teachers in a 2005-08 project funded within the ESRC’s Identities & Social Action programme.
