The IEC Common Information Model enables application interoperability at a semantic level but multiple identities attributed to common power system resources present challenges to unambiguous metadata model merging within a repository. An original methodology is described for building a novel metadata model repository concentrating existing knowledge of enterprise power system resources. The benefits of the approach are demonstrated with regard to National Grid use cases for network operation and planning model management roles, where ambiguities in metadata model merging were reduced significantly. The paper reports National Grid sponsored industry led research performed through the EPSRC funded Brunel Industrial Doctorate Scheme.
