Additional information

This international collaboration between Brunel University’s experts in continuous counter-current extraction/chromatography and leading Russian theoreticians of liquid-liquid extraction processes (A. Kostanyan and A. Voshkin, Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences) has allowed the development of a more detailed model for intermittent counter-current extraction which takes into account both axial mixing and interphase mass transfer which effect the efficiency of a separation. This model reduces the need for preliminary experiments with potentially high value compounds.
