English abstract

“This book presents the life of the Swiss Franz Riedweg, who rose up the ranks of the SS as a personal protégé of Heinrich Himmler, and became responsible for the recruitment of non-German Germanic Waffen-SS volunteers and the SS’ Germanic policy. In 1944, after being disowned by Himmler, he was transferred to the Eastern Front, where he spent the rest of the war. Despite legal proceedings against Riedweg in both Switzerland and Germany after the war, he was able to re-enter civilian life as a respected medical doctor, and to remain politically active within circles of Europe’s extreme right.”
