Double-weighted statement

'Behind the Berlin' is the fruit of ten years of research covering the entire lifetime of East Germany's vital relationship with its border to the West, embodied by the Berlin Wall. The book used a large array of GDR sources, from party and Stasi, both at national and local level, as well as film and literature, to provide a bottom-up view of ordinary East Germans' experience of the closed society, thus challenging previous top-down, diplomatic Cold War histories.
