Etymology and the Invention of English in Early Modern Literature
This book is the product of intensive research conducted over a period of some seven years, and carried out in a range of international research libraries including the British Library, Princeton University Library and the Folger Shakespeare Library. It analyses a considerable body of little-studied (and relatively inaccessible) material written by both canonical and less traditional authors, for which modern printed editions are very frequently unavailable. Spanning almost an entire century, from 1579 to 1674, the research contained therein amasses an extensive amount of data, which is scrutinised in highly detailed and complex terms.
