Additional information

A novel laboratory-scale system was developed for the controlled synthesis of inorganic nanomaterials (particles <100nm) allowing the production of high-strength bioceramics (bio/dental materials). It was the first time that well-defined nanocrystalline Ca, P apatite powders of translucent hydroxyapetite were produced. The research was a collaboration industrial partners (Corin, Sun chemicals, Johnson Matthey, Malvern), funded by an EPSRC grant (EP/E040551/1, £516k) and has inspired new manufacturing/fabrication methods for nanomaterials resulting in further EPSRC funding (EP/E040624/1, £493k).
