Additional information

A detailed and rigorously validated model has been advanced for predicting the spatial and temporal variation of temperature in and around an innovative alternative scheme for a potentially safer and cheaper way to dispose of high-level nuclear waste. Our disposal scheme, spearheaded by this state-of-the-art modelling work, is recognized as internationally leading; we are partner in an international consortium led by Sandia National Labs, have secured US$100K grant from them for further development work, and a £400k grant from EPSRC (EP/K039350/1) for developing a geothermal cementing system for boreholes.
