Additional information

First demonstration of spray deposition of composite dielectric thin films with embedded gold nanoparticles, for producing a robust coloured coating on large area glass combined with solar control for energy efficiency. The commercially enabling step is the ability to apply the coating from a single solution, suitable for float line production of glass for building products. This work was supported by a TSB grant, in partnership with the glass manufacturer Pilkington, Johnson Matthey and UCL (CHBS/004/00076C-total resources £1334k). Our research led to a patent application (WO/2010/106370). Pilkington also carried out production trials at one of their factories (details available).
