Additional information

<22>This paper introduced what is now called "the combined approach" to conjunctive query (CQ) answering in ontology-based data access (OBDA) for EL. Together with the "pure rewriting approach" to OBDA, this is now one of only two standard techniques for answering CQs in OBDA. Many papers are based on this approach, e.g., Stefanoni, Motik, Horrocks "Introducing Nominals to the Combined Query Answering Approaches for EL" (AAAI 2012). Wolter and co-authors developed the combined approach further and received the Best Paper Award at ISWC 2013 for "The Combined Approach to OBDA: Taming Role Hierarchies using Filters."
