Additional information

Until this paper was published, extreme value theory had never before been used to bound the response of uncertain structures. It is therefore totally original. The method is capable of bounding the response of a substantial batch of nominally-identical uncertain structures, such as automotive vehicle bodies, from a very much smaller sample. No other methods are capable of doing this.

The work helped secure a four-year EU FP7 Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways project (PIAP-GA-2008-218030), with CDH AG Germany, to examine mid and high frequency vehicle body noise and vibration. Contact: Dr L. Huang, Tel: +49 8419 74810, Email: linchun.huang@cdh-ag.com.
