Described is a new method to determine buckling loads of dimpled columns. The work developed an experimental approach for cold roll-formed structures produced by the UltraSTEEL® dimpling process. This enabled an increased understanding of the process and the derivation of modified buckling design formulas.
The validation of higher loads and the theoretical underpinning enabled Hadley Industries plc. to increase actual turnover by £1,086,000 (actual profit by £ 258,050) in the first year after the completion of the work.
