Additional information

Efforts to reduce vehicle fuel consumption have seen a revival in research on continuously variable transmission (CVT). Reported is a successfully implemented search algorithm for the dimensional optimisation of a novel CVT design. This optimisation technique also proved to be a powerful tool when used to select the dimensions of the transmission to fulfil any desired characteristics.

This paper, and others by the author, has prompted approaches from industry, already resulting in a consultancy contract from Inawa, France. The author has also been appointed scientific advisor and member of Inawa board. Contact: Pierre Chevalier, Tel:+33 345 213 609, Email: Pierre.Chevalier@inawa.fr
