This 90,000-word monograph analyzes and synthesizes a substantive, diverse and wide-ranging body of critical material on Proust’s work and on the act of reading (and interpretation more widely). Its analytical framework is shaped by literary-critical, philosophical and psychoanalytical sources (above all Barthes, Derrida, Bowie and Freud). The book was my major research preoccupation for 6 years.
