Roberts was Principal Investigator of the AHRC research network which produced this 233-page special issue. As guest editor, he was jointly responsible for the editing with Russell Ganim (Roberts edited 6 of the 12 articles) (although Anne Birberick is named on the title page as an editor of the journal/series 'EMF: Studies in Early Modern France' she did not edit any of the contents of this issue) and is sole author of the introduction (pp. xiii-xiv) as well as the article on pp. 195-214.
