Exhibition of landscape photography from 27 European Union member states
Wells’ involvement with Sense of Place was in three parts: as consultant, as guest curator, working with the internal curator of photography, and as editor/writer, for the research and production of the keynote essay for the exhibition catalogue.
The originality of this research project rests in bringing together and critically considering the range and diversity of landscape practices across Europe, interrogating specific characteristics and differences. There has been no equivalent major survey exhibition of contemporary photographic landscape practices across Europe.
The research originated in a commission to bring together examples of landscape practices from across the EU.
The exhibition was centrally located in Brussels at BOZAR, with European Union interest and support. The publication exists in two versions, four languages (Dutch/French; English/German).
