Transdisciplinarnost: izzivi, pristopi in priložnosti na pragu zgodovine

This essay, published in English, Croatian and Slovenian in this volume, is an extended version of a white paper contribution submitted by the Society of Engineers, Artists and Designers to the National Science Foundation (U.S.A.) on transdisciplinarity. The paper was the outcome of a two-year research network project funded by Plymouth University (c£20k) to bring together an international community of scholars to consider the research implications of transdisciplinary practices for research in the Arts and Humanities. The network consulted with senior established researchers in the Arts, Sciences and Humanities and was intended to address transdisciplinary research at the highest level in order to develop methods, identify concerns and propose procedures appropriate to post-doctoral research by early career researchers in particular. Through this it also expects to dissolve some of the more consuming problems reiterated in the H. E. PhD sector and, more significantly open new perspectives for transdisciplinary research. In particular the network considered why practice based research might be valuable and where its issues and lessons might be applied to university research strategies in the widest sense. This collaboration is recognised in the advisory board named in this article. The paper comprises a survey of the literature and a series of recommendations by the principle authors (Punt, Blassnigg) that have been taken forward to the National Science Foundation (U.S.A.) to inform further research strategies. The paper was presented in Washington by SEAD (Network for Science, Engineering, Art and Design) and the published version of the research cited here also includes reflections on a workshop delivered by Punt as part of the EU funded No Borders Culture project in Cachovec, Croatia in 2012 on transdisciplinary practices in the arts and design for practitioners and curators.
