Op-Sy.com
OP-SY.com (11/2010) is a software platform that provides a technological infrastructure for interdisciplinary collaborations and new digital works. It consists of servers, networked sensors, software applications and analytics. Drawing on design approaches associated with the ‘Internet of Things’ it was developed by Phillips (PI) supported by a team of researchers, artists and industrial collaborators. It is essentially open source (third party licencing permitting) and distributed through the site and GitHub (https://github.com/i-DAT) under the Creative Commons ShareAlike license.
Op-Sy provides novel digital techniques to harvest, analyse and visualise quantitative and qualitative data, providing a more holistic approach to capturing intangible values, such as sentiment and engagement as well as negotiable values from architectures, environments and bodies.
The research methodology integrates a range of approaches, embracing software/hardware design, sentiment analysis and visualisation and those employed by collaborators including; psychologists, environmentalists, educators, cultural organisations. Sony, Facebook and IBM (who sponsor the Smarter Planet Lab in Plymouth) actively collaborate with and support the research.
